MRC - T - 1st Paddle & Float

The Full Set of Event Photos

What better resource does West Tennessee have than the Mississippi River?  None at all!  October 6, 2007 was the first annual Paddle & Float, an event to raise awareness about what an incredible asset we have with the Mississippi River.  A group of us (thanks to the Mississippi River Corridor organization) met at Mud Island Marina.  The group divided into Floaters (those who rode in boats) and Paddlers (those who took the shuttle up to Meeman-Shelby Forest and canoed).  Both groups met on Hickman Bar for exquisite natural beauty, good food, bluegrass music and ponderings by Mark Twain!

ReelfootLake

ReelfootLake
Originally uploaded by amiev
Located in Lake & Obion Counties, Reelfoot Lake was formed from a series of earthquakes along the New Madrid fault back in 1812, the largest of which occurred on February 7, 1812. The town of Tiptonville borders the lake in the south. While the fall foliage is breathtaking, here's a tip for you: if you want to see Bald Eagles in the wild, visit Reelfoot Lake during the winter months, tours are available. The 4th Annual Eagle Festival will be held February 1-3, 2008.
